Sunday the 22nd of January 2006 by Trials Action

Albert Cabestany (Sherco) took the win in the third round of the Indoor Trial World Championship which has been held today in Granada, in front of 6,000 spectators who have attended the event in the pavilion Palacio de los Deportes. The Spanish rider came out on top ahead of fellow country man Adam Raga (Gas Gas) and Toni Bou (Beta) in the final lap. After this result, Raga is still leading the overall standings, trailed by Cabestany and Bou who are tied on the second place.

During the final lap, Bou was the first rider to lose his chance of winning, after two failures in sections three and four. Raga’s made his first mistake six where he was awarded five points. Meanwhile, Cabestany was consistent during the whole race which helped him to clinch the victory.

Prior to that, Jeroni Fajardo, who was one of the candidates for reaching the podium, after leading for the majority of the first lap with five consecutive zeros as he committed two mistakes in the last two sections, costing him a place in the final.

Granada has seen the third all Spanish podium of the season, in which Bou, Raga, and Cabestany all shared the victories in the first three events.

A. Cabestany: “I am very satisfied with this triumph, I honestly think I deserved to win a race but it has arrived even earlier that my first win last season. My team and I have been working very hard to find the best set-up for the bike and now the results have arrived. The race has been hard and close as all of us were showing a very similar level. I want to thank the public here in Granada for their support, they have contributed to have an amazing atmosphere.”

A. Raga: “Regarding the fight for the World Title I am very happy with his result. Obviously I had arrived with the aim of taking the win but it was not possible, and I must remain positive because a second place still keeps me leading the overall standings. We still have a long way to go until the end of the season but it is always better to be ahead of my rivals since the beginning. This race has been very complicated because all the riders were committing little mistakes in the first lap, making it difficult to get through the final”.

T. Bou: “I feel that getting to the final is successful for me as I thought I would not make it even after not having a bad first lap. This third position is a good result taking into account the high level of the four Spanish riders who have shared the podiums so far”.
