FITWC Sheffield - Race Report

Saturday the 7th of January 2006 by Trials Action

Toni Bou (Beta) has clinched the victory in the first round of the Indoor Trial World Championship (FITWC) held today in Hallam FM Sheffield Arena in front of 8.500 spectators. Bou has been the winner in a Spanish final, competed by Adam Raga (Gas Gas) and Jeroni Fajardo (Gas Gas).

The final result was decided in the play-off because the current World Champion, Adam Raga, failed in the final water fall section, finishing the second lap tied on 10 points with Bou. The Beta rider finally took victory in the double-lane race, with the British public pushing for him to win.

Last year’s runner-up, Albert Cabestany (Sherco) was not able to make it to the final as he was tied with Jeroni Fajardo on 12 points, losing out on time. British rider and local hero Dougie Lampkin (Repsol Montesa-HRC), who apart from not competing in the final, was forced to use the second bike as he failed in the sixth section causing serious damage to his machine.

Toni Bou: “I am very satisfied because when I was thinking in assuring my second final place, Raga has failed and the situation has completely changed. This races are like a lottery and this time the victory has failed on my side”.

Adam Raga: “I am very disappointed as I feel I have lost the race in a very stupid way. However, if we take into account the level I have shown during the whole final, and considering that I am the first permanent rider in the overall standings, I think I have to be very glad. If we keep on riding like today, I can take the World Title again”.

Jeroni Fajardo: “I am very happy because starting the Championship with a podium is a great result. Last year I was sixth in the first race and I ended up being third at the end of the season. It is obvious that you can always improve, but so far I am very satisfied”.
